Issues
Mentor residents invest in our community with their tax dollars. I will make sure this money works for you. Our city has approximately $70 million dollars in unencumbered funds. I am committed to use this money to work for Mentor residents and not raise taxes.
1. Invest in Safety Services
Mentor is a growing community and our city has excellent police and fire departments that make our safety a priority. Our safety forces have had numerous unfilled openings. With increased demands on these professions, Mentor needs to make a commitment to attract these professionals. I will make it my priority to invest in our safety services to make Mentor a city that attracts and maintains personnel. This means an investment in equipment and salaries.
2. Provide Affordable Public Amenities and Services
I believe that Mentor needs to focus on services that attract and maintain each generation of residents. This means a community that offers affordable housing to attract young families and seniors who wish to live in their hometown with supportive services and social amenities. Investing in walkable paths, bike lanes, and exploring services such as leaf removal, reinstituting the storm water management program to limit storm water in your backyard, sidewalk maintenance, and aquatic centers will attract and retain residents.
3. Create Business Friendly Practices
Serving as a planning commissioner for the past 7 years has given me the experience needed to understand zoning codes and requirements for new developments and businesses in our City. The practices that helped Mentor develop are also restrictive for small businesses and revitalization programs. I would use my knowledge to advocate for zoning practices that maintain important residential districts, encourage small business growth, and promote walkable districts while protecting important manufacturing zones.
